It’s starting.

Volunteer driven new conservation initiative.

Anti-Poaching Unit Finland

What, why, how?

Several poaching cases that have come to light in recent years have made it clear that there is a need in Finland for activities that monitor problem areas more effectively than what has been possible with the resources available up to now. APAF is highly motivated to establish a unit aimed at enlisting volunteer professionals who are all dedicated to the common objective of reducing poaching incidents. All initiatives undertaken by this unit are firmly grounded in the legal frameworks established by Finnish law. The primary aim is to extend assistance to the Finnish authorities by promptly sharing all pertinent information with them. Put simply, this initiative focuses on harnessing citizens' support to aid governmental agencies in safeguarding the welfare of animals.

Here’s how we start

  • Find the right people

It all starts with people who share the same passionate goal of helping wildlife.

Since the work is voluntary, the desire to do things that matter is everything. Almost as important is the skill to move in nature professionally and thoughtfully, without disturbing animals or other fellow humans.

It is an advantage if you have completed a degree that provides an understanding of Finnish legislation regarding movement in nature, legal hunting and otherwise serves the job description in detecting illegal hunting.

Since the topic is sensitive, we as an organization process applications confidentially. We are also very precise in the selection process, that's why references are an advantage to ensure the correct purpose of the applicant.

In addition, we are looking for volunteers from the following areas to be our advisors:

    -Master of Laws

    -ICT expert

    -Social media producer

    -Wildlife veterinarian

-If you feel that you have a skill with which you could help the welfare of animals, contact us

  • Donate to a strong start

We want our volunteers to work in equipment that allows even demanding weather conditions. With your donation, the operation will also become more efficient in terms of the necessary equipment, such as various observation equipment, camping equipment and first aid supplies.

Possible animal rescue operations can also be carried out with the help of donations. Any help is a great help.

  • Report suspicious activity

If you become aware of any questionable activity in nature, related to animals, we encourage you to contact us so that we can emphasize questionable areas more precisely in our operations.

Your donation supports what?

Equipment

APAF acknowledges the varied equipment requirements of Anti-Poaching Units. Each unit receives selective support to address critical issues and enhance operational efficiency. Essential supplies include first aid kits, surveillance gear, tactical attire, fuel, vehicles, and tools.

Would donating a smaller amount be helpful?

Yes, very much. Without these smaller amounts, many of the projects we've accomplished would not have been possible.

Training & Volunteering

The work against poaching is demanding and carries high risks. Offering Anti-Poaching Units the opportunity to receive training from top professionals in their respective fields aims to minimize these risks. Professionals are hired based on identified needs for specific competencies within the units.

I have the abilities and desire to assist. May I join in any way?

Yes, it’s possible. Interested individuals are sought to volunteer for the forthcoming anti-poaching unit in Finland. Ideal candidates should possess knowledge of Finnish legislation pertaining to nature movement and hunting, along with expertise in navigating nature without causing disruptions to others or wildlife. A genuine dedication to conserving natural diversity through ethical and sustainable practices is essential for this role. Please get in touch via email for more information (please include your CV with a photo). All applicants will be treated confidentially regarding this sensitive topic. References from reliable sources are advantageous.

Education

Education is considered the most effective and crucial solution for transforming destructive behaviors into constructive and enduring ones. The objective is to take the lead and support projects that offer maximum benefits to local communities. Increased education leads to more job opportunities and less poaching.

I agree that raising awareness on this topic is important. How can I help spread this information more?

Yes, we’d love to share this information. If you are in the education sector, contact us. We have visited several educational institutions, from universities to high schools, to tell students how they can change our future for the better. We can also bring ideas to companies about how responsibility can be a driving force in business life.

Every donation matters

We are committed to protect our wildlife, join us.
